Winter Fuel Cuts

I am deeply worried about the imminent danger facing some of the most vulnerable members of our community this winter.

The Government’s proposal to remove the Winter Fuel Payment leaves many of our elderly residents, who are already teetering on the edge of fuel poverty or barely managing their finances, at serious risk.

Winter Fuel Payments are crucial for supporting our older community members through the harsh winter months. Age UK estimates that nearly one in three pensioners in the UK live in fuel poverty. It’s a stark but true fact, highlighting the importance of these payments in keeping our pensioners safe and warm during winter.

For the sake of our elderly neighbours, friends, and family members, help me urge Alan Strickland MP to stand up for Spennymoor and oppose the removal of Winter Fuel Payments for vulnerable pensioners.
